U.S. Agricultural Bankruptcy Filings, January 2021 – June 2026

Both chapters are counted in distinct cases (unique court + case number) throughout — map, state table and chart alike. What differs is filing behaviour, not the unit: in Chapter 12 a joint or multi-debtor filing shares one docket and counts once, while in Chapter 11 each related entity files its own case, so one farm group can appear as several cases at a single location. Chart Chapter 12 totals come from the full PACER extract (1,201 cases) and so run slightly ahead of the 1,200 cases the map can place; the one remaining case has a foreign address and cannot be placed.
